Goal Setting for Momentum

Step 1: Analyze the semester so far

  • Which class or project did I feel most engaged with, and why?
  • What is one skill I’d like to work on in the next few weeks to support my academic or career growth?
  • What resources (office hours, Career Services Network, Writing Center) could I use more effectively for the rest of the semester?

Step 2: Identify a goal for the remainder of the semester

Think of one simple action you can take to move you closer to getting a career you will love. Consider the following ideas:

  • Emailing a professional to ask about shadowing or scheduling an informational interview
  • Updating your resume or attending a resume workshop
  • Signing up for a few hours of volunteer work
  • Attending a cover letter workshop
  • Updating your LinkedIn profile
  • Reaching out to a professor about undergraduate research
  • Scheduling a meeting with a career advisor to discuss career options
  • Listing full or part time jobs to apply to
  • Researching an education abroad program
  • Joining a student organization related to your field of interest

Step 3: Articulate why the goal is important to you

Why is this goal important to you? What's the bigger picture?

Step 4: Produce a plan

I will ___ by the end of the semester, Friday, December 13th, 2025, because ___ by ___.
